Step 1 FEEL

Hundreds of books were sent to scrap after the session got over every year. These books which could be used by others to gain knowledge were just being wasted. The students didn't bother nor others. The prices of these books increase every year with minimal or no changes in the content. This bothered Shrija who came up with a solution to this issue.

The concern was throwing away of the used text books of last session, the books were being discarded instead of being utilised or sharing the same with the ones who need it. There are several students who are unable to buy books due to financial constraints. Such students can use these books. This world can become a better place only if we pave these gaps and bring inclusiveness. If we become concerned individuals and help people from all walks of life.

Students from lesser privileged families were affected by this problem. There are several students who are unable to buy books due to financial constraints. Such students can use these books. This world can become a better place only if we pave these gaps and bring inclusiveness. If we become concerned individuals and help people from all walks of life making this world more balanced in every way.

Step 2 IMAGINE

The different solutions were- 1. Buying new books and giving it to such students 2. Providing e- content to the students 3. Providing old books in good condition to their libraries. 4. Sharing own resources or books of the previous year, every year.

We chose last two solutions and combined them to apply. They were - Providing old books in good condition to their libraries. and sharing own resources or books of the previous year, every year. The reason to choose these options were that they required less or no financial resources and can be done every year with the help of school management. The school organises a 7 day- 'Reading Mahotsav' every year to promote reading amongst students. Under the same event we could give the books to such students who don't have enough finances to buy text books.

Step 3DO

The school text books used by the students during the session were not being recycled and were thrown away after the session was over. The books were in bad shape so were not of much use by others as well. The students decided to learn binding from the under privileged children of a nearby school but the books were still looking old and worn out. Therefore, the art department students decided to give it a fresh new look to make it more attractive and appealing. Soon the books were looking fresh. The students with the help of the school authorities chose R.S. Memorial Academy, where they gifted the text books. They read out stories and poems and had a great time. This activity is set to be repeated every year by the students under 'Reading Mahotsav' activity in the month of July.

The student were intrigued and amazed by the way the books looked also, they were happy to have these text books as reference books in the library. As the number of books were around 137 they were not enough for all the students but a provision of borrowing them from the library helped them to get the books whenever they required them. The school management was thankful for the gesture the students have shown. The same will be repeated every year by grade 11.

600

1. Mr. Uma Shankar Rai- The owner of the school said ''Such gestures go a long way and help the society to move forward taking people from all walks of life together''. 2. Ms. Niharika Srivastava- Principal- R. S. Memorial Academy said- ''I am amazed by the beautiful drawings on the books and am very happy that the students have given books to the library. We will make sure that they are used well. The efforts are visible and our teachers are also very happy with their visit to our school.''

Challenges faced while implementing the project- 1. The students had to learn the art of binding which was a little difficult as it requires some practice and effort but students learnt it in some time. 2. Gathering books which had all the papers intact and were in a better shape as they could be hard bound. 3. Choosing the books and choosing the right school which can use the books as all the text books were of CBSE curriculum.

7-15 Days

Reduced inequalities

There are several students who are unable to buy books due to financial constraints. Such students can use these text books. There are such inequalities where people don't have money to buy books for their kids and others are ignorant of such resources and throw them away after the session is over. This world can become a better place only if we pave these gaps and bring inclusiveness. If we become concerned individuals and help people from all walks of life.

Step 4 SHARE

We shared the project with our school and community by presenting the idea of the project in the assembly and asked people to come forward and give more of the old text books for the project. We shared the project with students and teachers of our and other school, R.S. Memorial Academy. They were appreciative of the project and volunteered to contribute in future as well. This activity is set to be repeated every year by the students under 'Reading Mahotsav'

More than 100

The plan is to give more books every year to school(s) so that more and more students are benefited by the used text books if they are unable to buy it. This activity is set to be repeated every year by the students under 'Reading Mahotsav' activity in the month of July. As this project does not require any investment, its very sustainable.
