Step 3DO

We fought against the beliefs and superstitions attached to menstruation in our village. Following the age old rituals and ceremonies associated with puberty, our parents and relatives treated us very badly when we started our periods. This experience of being treated as an outcast was very painful for us, both physically and mentally. when we found out that all the girls in our village went through a similar experience during their periods, we decided to raise our voice against the stigma associated with menstruation. we attempted to raise consciousness around the subject in several ways. we organised awareness rallies in our village, performed street plays and invited a doctor working in the primary health center to educate the people in our village and counsel school girls. Other influential community leaders and heads of women organizations also supported us in conducting awareness program. Through our persistent efforts, we shook the beliefs and superstitions of our village people. we have been able to sensitize almost 1500 people in our village and there has been a gradual shift in the way girls are now treated during menstruation. we must do all we can to make sure that there is no discrimination against women and they are all treated equally and fairly.

More than 1500 people

1. well behaved women rarely make history. 2. men and women are equal

Though our mothers and grandmothers are women, they didn't accept it first. Because they also suffered lot by their ancestors. They believe that, if a girl becomes menses, she will treat as a defile and isolate her on outside of the house. so we regularly create an awareness among them and succeed.
