Step 1 FEEL

1) Under privileged people are struggling daily to have sufficient duration of sleep as they have to sleep on the pathways without any sheets and pillows. 2) Poor people are not getting shelter and have to live on the streets. 3) Poor people do not have enough food. 4) Sanitation and hygiene is not up to the mark. 5) Contaminated water and scarcity of water

Most of the under privileged people do not have enough pillows sheets to cover their body.We choose this problem as we thought by doing this we will be able to help those poor people who are unable to fulfill even their basic needs. 1)People sleeping on the pathways and being troubled by mosquitoes and lights of vehicles. 2)A lady approached us on the red light and asked us to give a sheet as she was about to deliver a baby and she needed that to cover her body. 3) Due to the increase in number of cases of dengue, we thought about the welfare of underprivileged people who have to sleep either on the pathways or in their slum area.

People affected were the under privileged ones who are very poor and cannot afford a home. They have to either sleep on the pathways or have to live in slum areas . And as these places are very cluttered with a lot of unhygienic things and during rains water is also clogged around these areas, it becomes a breeding place for mosquitoes. Lot of people even die due to extreme heat, chilly weather and deadly diseases because of mosquitoes. During out visits to slum areas, we observed a lady needed a sheet as she was about to deliver a baby and she wanted a sheet just to cover her body during the delivery time.

Step 2 Imagine

We thought of buying sheets from the market and distribute but we did not have enough funds. We also thought of bringing spare bed sheets from our home and giving to them but they were not enough in numbers. We thought of arranging lots of small pieces (Katrans) from our nearby tailors and stitch a sheet for poor and needy people.

We choose to arrange lots of small pieces (Katrans) from our nearby tailors and stitch a bed sheet for poor and needy people. We choose this options as there were no finances involved and we all were able to arrange enough amount of small pieces and by joining them together we were also getting a feel that we are adding colours to their lives.

Step 3DO

We visited many tailors and boutiques. Collected lots of small pieces of clothes. Stitched those small pieces by hand first and later with the help of our school helpers, stitched them with machines. To make the pillows- We brought spare pillow covers from home and stuffed tiny pieces of clothes.

We went to a slum area to distribute all the sheets and pillows, people there were in so much in need, they happily took them and blessed us. Now they will be able to sleep without the fear of diseases spread through the mosquitoes and will also not be disturbed by the lights of vehicles.

150

"Thank you, in baccho ne hamare baare mein socha" Nanhe baccho, tum logo ne yeh sab hamaare liye banaya hai, bhagwaan tumhara bhala kare."

Tailors were not entertaining us and not giving us the small pieces, we had to convince them all the time. We did not know how to stitch, we learnt it from our teachers. When we went to distribute the sheets and pillows , people were snatching the sheets and they were not listening to us, we had to tell them to be disciplined and be in a line to take the sheets and pillows one by one.

7-15 Days

Good health and well being

By covering them selves, under privileged people will be able to have enough amount of comfortable sleep as they will be able to sleep without the fear of diseases spread through the mosquitoes and will also not be disturbed by the lights of vehicles.

Step 4 SHARE

We shared our project with our family, neighborhood and friends. With our friends, we shared during the assembly period in the auditorium. We also shared with our family and neighbors during our society meeting and RWA meetings. They were very excited and happy and wanted to contribute towards our project.

More than 100

On fortnight basis, we will keep collecting the small pieces with our family, friends, neighbors and nearby tailors and keep making the sheets and pillows for poor and needy people and will distribute the sheets in our already recognized slum areas.
